Some results today: I probably found the place I am going to stay for the two months. I was trying to find the place and to reach the guy who rents it, and after few attempts he decided to come fetch me. "Come out of the Guest House when you hear a big noise". That was appealing. So of course he arrives on a motorcycle, with his son of a year and a half on his lap. I ride the bike behind and the 3 of us go like that, without helmets of course, on the roads full of big rocks, holes, people crossing whenever, and cars, trucks or buses that prefer to caress your shoulder rather than slowing down. The last time in India, I did ride a motorcycle behind a Tibetan monk, which was really a treat, but this is not bad either.

So in the end, I arrive with all my pieces, and I visit the room which is on the last floor. It is not a Penthouse, since you share the bathroom and kitchen with 2 other people (one of them being a friend who was previously at the University of Chicago), but the view is just astonishing, and above all, the most important is that I can take my tea while beholding the whole valley at the roof!!!!!! (just above my room) Soon I will send photos. I told him I would give him a specific answer tomorrow (I still want to look around, but the other places I saw were less colorful and more expensive), but, in the wise words of the great American philosopher Karen Walker, "I think we've got a yes".

I also started speaking Tibetan a lot today, so that's good, even when it was to discuss the results of the Soccer World Cup, which many Tibetans follow furiously. I visited my old Tibetan professor who was in the middle of an important all-day ritual, so I'll be back there tomorrow.

So soon a real place to stay for 2 months and I can really start to work.

I also visited the 3 biggest Tibetan bookstores that I know here, but of course the experience is too intense for me to actually describe it now... I guess not sleeping for 48 hours does affect me after all.

Finally, as a welcoming gift, no power tonight (is it in the whole of Kathmandu or in just in this area?). Anyway, that means I will post this tomorrow. That also means that I will sleep in my warm and humid room with no ventilation... I am definitely arrived.
